the word was made popular by channers. channers tend to not be very progressive and accepting, as you may know.
it’s used in the manosphere
the word’s meaning is basically someone who is a so-called “alpha male”. the associated gigachad image? it’s someone who is muscular with a wide-as-fuck chin. it’s meant to represent a toxic masculine image of what a “real man” should be like. it IS a term of endearment in the manosphere - and that in itself is a bad thing, you think they know shit about what so-called “real men” should be like? lol.
it can be misgendering
it also misgenders the receiver of the word, unless they’re a man. telling someone who isn’t masc that they are literally like this toxic, hypermasculine role model is very much wrong.
it’s an insult tbh
to be clear, it also sucks for men, since… comparing someone to an “alpha” should be an insult. that’s not a good thing. “hey, you’re self-absorbed” - that does not sound like a praise, does it?
